Typhoon Ondoy (international codename: Ketsana) is one of the Philippine typhoons I will never forget in this lifetime. It's a tragedy in its own right. The damages to lives and property can make anyone shed a tear. As of this writing, the death toll is already more than a hundred.
My heart goes out to my fellow Pinoys whose lives have been negatively affected by the typhoon. Let us find consolation in the fact that we are safe and sound despite all of this. For those families who had lost a loved one or two, my deepest condolences. Take time to grieve and lift up everything to God for He alone knows what's best for us.
My two siblings and I were not spared from the typhoon. On Saturday morning, we braved the flood in search of a safer ground. We were taken in by my boyfriend's family and we all stayed there until the next day when the water had subsided in our area. We live in one vicinity but their house is on higher ground. We were just more fortunate than others because we had food to eat and a dry place to sleep on. I would learn later that our office got flooded, too and my PC was one of the casualties. I don't know how much the damage is or if I'll still be able to recover my files, I'll find out tomorrow when I report for work. I filed for a leave today because we had to clean our place.
At this point in time, helping one another, especially the people that need help the most, is necessary. If you think you have the means to help, do so and never think twice. It could be in cash or in kind or even through prayers, so long as it comes from the heart, it will serve its purpose.
God bless the Philippines!
