Nestlé is one of the major players in the multi-billion food industry in the Philippines, if not the world. In the past years, we've seen how Nestle incorporated wellness into its core values and corporate responsibilities. To this day, Nestle continues to champion the cause of wellness among Filipinos through its worthy programs and projects. Yesterday afternoon, I learned more about Nestle as a brand, as a company and as a family that seeks to promote nutrition, health and wellness in every way they can during the I Choose the Joy of Wellness Netizens Meet and Greet held inside the amazingly spacious and fully-equipped Julius Maggi Kitchen at the Nestle Corporate Center in Rockwell, Makati.
Below are some fast facts about Nestle Philippines:
1. It was founded by Henry Nestle in 1866 through a cereal milk food that he created to save the life of a friend's child.
2. Nutrition is at the core value of Nestle's being which is why they work to bring nutrition within reach by the ordinary people.
3. Nestle has been educating Filipinos about good nutrition through their successful nutrition campaigns such as Laki sa Gatas ( a drive to raise public awareness on the importance of milk), 10 Signs of Good Nutrition (a nutrition information campaign in partnership with the Nutritionists-Dietitians Association of the Philippines (NDAP) and Healthy Breakfast with Whole Grains (an ongoing campaign teaching Filipinos to include the healthy goodness of whole grains in our daily diet)
4. Nestle is seriously promoting wellness through its Choose Wellness, Choose Nestle program that started from its own employees before it was launched to the public. This includes wellness workshops and related activities.
5. Nestle is helping sustain the livelihood of our local coffee farmers by sourcing its coffee requirements (for Nescafe) from them. With this work, they are also contributing in no small way in keeping the coffee farming industry alive in the Philippines.
6. Nestle is developing minds through its On-the-Job Training for Vocational Students. This is in partnership with the Don Bosco Techncial School in Canlubang, Laguna.
7. Nestle is building character among Filipino youth through sports with its Milo Summer Sports Clinic Program.
8. Nestle is providing livelihood to communities and improving the lives of many Filipinos through its various livelihood programs such as the Cut and Sew project, the Julius Maggi Kitchen culinary seminars, the Business on Wheels (BOW) program, the Nestle Ice Cream Street Selling Program and the Nestle Micro-distributorship program, among others.
9. Nestle is also involved in several socio-civic and charitable works.
10. Nestle continues to reach out to the Filipino people by providing us with only the best and quality food and nutrition products.

What started as a plain discussion on the various Nestle wellness programs ended up in a lively exchange of ideas and information between the Nestle people led by Ms. Cora Sager (Nestle Corporate Wellness Head) and the group of bloggers present that afternoon. There was also a cooking demo by Chef Tess Sutilo (Nestle's resident chef) that ensued after the talk. The bloggers welcomed it with much anticipation and delight. The two dishes she prepared using Nestle's very own seasoning Maggi Magic Sarap were included in the heavy merienda that followed.
The event wouldn't be complete without a short lecture on wellness. We were each given a wellness starter kit and we did an on-the-spot wellness test. The road to wellness is no easy journey. It is recommended that we make little but concrete steps. Choosing the right food and a healthy lifestyle are keys to achieve wellness. The best time to start is NOW.
The bloggers were also invited to join the Nestle Club which is where Nestle recipes and goodness stories are shared and enjoy. You are welcome to join, too. Visit them at http://www.nestleclub.com.ph.
Many thanks to Nestle Philippines and the OgilvyOne Manila for inviting me to this awesome Nestle bloggers event. :)
