Who would have thought that you could get added protection against mosquitoes from a fabric conditioner? No one, until Procter & Gamble Philippines came out with some interesting discoveries about its very own Downy Antibac. To see is to believe.
I was one of the bloggers who got invited to the Bug-Free Seminar organized by Procter & Gamble Philippines which was held last Saturday afternoon in one of the lovely residences in Greenhills, San Juan. It was none other than Good Housekeeping Editor-in-Chief Jing Lejano who served as one of the resource speakers and gave us a short tour of the beautiful Chinese-themed house. She taught us some valuable tips on how to "bug-freefy" our homes. Aside from cleaning the house thoroughly, which is what most people normally do, she also shared some smart food storage tips and finally, introduced us to Downy Antibac and its anti-mosquito properties.
Enter the P&G people who discussed everything we needed to know about Downy Antibac and staged a live demo with the help of the three chemists from the Philippine Association of Entomologists (PAE). A well-screened cage with a small opening was brought out containing an army of mosquitoes. A volunteer blogger was asked to place her right arm inside the cage to know how the mosquitoes would react. To be protected from mosquito bites and execute the experiment properly, her arm was covered by a long cloth glove which was lightly scrub against her arm for 10 times to absorb the distinctive human odor that attract mosquitoes. Two long cloth gloves were used: one was washed with Downy Antibac as fabric conditioner and the other, without. As expected, the cloth glove that used Downy Antibac kept a good number of mosquitoes from biting the volunteer's arm. The demo was a success and proved that indeed, Downy Antibac can really help repel mosquitoes!

The repelling action of Downy Antibac comes from its unique fragrance system and antibacterial ingredients. It has been tested by credible third party institutions in five geographies: Japan, China, Thailand, the Philippines and most recently, Vietnam. The results showed 33 to 53 percent repellency. Impressive, isn't it?
While Downy Antibac doesn't claim to keep you 100 percent safe from the diseases caused by mosquitoes, it's good to know that we can enjoy other benefits from it like this one. We all know the serious danger posed by mosquitoes.
