Recently, a friend of mine has been itching to get herself an iPhone 3GS, arguably the hottest mobile phone in the market today. I researched about the phone and got some interesting discoveries. Aside from its speed and voice control, did you know that this high-end phone (by Philippine standards) has a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating?
Oleophobic is defined by Dictionary.com as "having or relating to a lack of strong affinity for oils." Apple is smart enough to keep its iPhone 3GS from getting filled with fingerprints by making its screen oleophobic. (This holds true for mobile users with excessively oily hands. ) This added feature of the iPhone 3GS is not present in the previous iPhone models.
As to how long it will take before the oleophobic coating wears off, Apple didn't give an estimate. You just have to keep your iPhone 3GS from being too exposed in hot areas. Apple also advises iPhone 3GS users, through the phone's user guide, that when it comes to its oleophobic coating, you as user should "wipe your iPhone’s screen with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove oil left by your hands and face." It's as simple as that.
