Running My Way to Good Health

It's been more than a month since the fiancee and I started running. By that, I mean the occasional fun runs that we join in, our weekly jog at the Quirino Grandstand and Rizal Park grounds and the regular jogging that we do almost nightly at the comfort and security of our neighborhood. Our goal is to run our way back to good health since we both gained so much weight last year.
We have a love-hate relationship with running. At this point, we can say we are loving it so much because little by little, we're seeing improvements in our body and in our health. And we're proud to say that aside from getting physical benefits from running, we are also able to help other people by joining fun runs that promote important causes. Just like when we joined the United Nations - World Food Programme's End Hunger: Walk the World running event that benefited the children of Mindanao.

Actually, our ultimate running dream is to join a marathon. We're getting there. We just have to do a lot of preparations first. I remember that to get us started in running, we got ourselves new running shoes. I have always believed that investing in a pair of good running shoes is a must if one is to make running a part of his lifestyle. There are many brands of shoes in the market today that choosing your pair becomes quite difficult. For so long, we have been loyal to this brand of running shoes because of their continued innovation on the style, design and high-tech features of their shoes. We don't mind spending more if it would mean we'd get high quality running shoes. After all, a good pair of shoes could last us a long time.
Speaking of running shoes, did you know that there is a new brand of running shoes coming to the Philippines soon? The name is On Running. Hmm, I wonder if they have my size (US 7.5, UK 6). I always have a hard time finding the perfect running shoes because most of the time, the style I want doesn't carry my size. Or they just run out of it easily. Haha.
My running experience with the fiancee has been good. I like it that my body is getting stronger and my muscles, leaner. I can feel that we're getting healthier each day. I just hope we are able to sustain our interest in running because it is a great way to achieve optimum health.
How about you, are you also into running? How's it been so far?

Jogging and Wave Boarding in Cavite
Posted by edelweiza in Balancing Acts, Cavite Homes, Jogging, Life and Living, Living in the Suburbs, Outdoor Activities in Cavite, Running Shoes, Shoes Shopping, Wave Boarding
I just got back from our Cavite home where I stayed last night. I'm so excited about our little project there. We're building an extension which will serve as our dirty kitchen and laundry area once finished. I can't wait to shop for items to be stored in our small pantry. Also, I can't wait to start jogging and wave boarding in our village with my mom and siblings.
Our subdivision isn't fully occupied yet so you won't see a lot of people going around. Which makes it perfect for outdoor sports and activities. (Come to think of it, I think I need to do some shoes shopping very soon!) As for me, I enjoy jogging and wave boarding a lot. I suck at wave boarding, though. I guess I'm not that good when it comes to balancing acts. But I'm not giving up on wave boarding yet. I trying my best to learn the ropes of it.
This weekend is gonna be more fun because Edwin is going to Cavite with me. But in one condition, I must help him choose a nice pair of running shoes. He wants to go jogging with me in Cavite. It's the only sport/exercise he thinks he can enjoy doing at present. He plans to start running soon (by joining fun runs), though. :)

Running is a sport that has come a long way in this country. Primarily designed to strengthen muscles and build endurance, running today is as much an advocacy as it is a way to achieve good health and stay fit. Health and wellness aside, many Filipino families today even see it as an opportune time to bond and spend some quality time together. Unilab, through its latest project dubbed as 'Unilab Run United for Wellness' is one with Filipino families in this direction.

During the press briefing for the upcoming event held at Cafe Juanita in Burgos Circle, Taguig, Unilab oriented the bloggers about the run. There was also Coach Rio dela Cruz, a renowned running coach overseeing the run on March 7, 2010 at the Bonifacio Global City, who shared with us the basics as well as the do's and dont's of running.
