In a very enlightening bloggers event organized by Sun Life Financial (SLF)* at Buenisimo (by Cafe Ysabel) in Eastwood Mall last Saturday night, I learned a lot about saving for the future and how people (particularly Filipinos) must value financial security for a better and more rewarding life. "It’s Time!" is actually "a financial literacy campaign designed by SLF to further educate Filipinos on how to effectively prepare for the future."

Did you know that out of 100 Filipinos who retire, 45 are dependent on relatives, 30 are dependent on charity, 22 are still working and only 2 are financially independent?

Bam Aquino and Pia Magalona, two of SLF's advocates, conducted a financial literacy talk to us bloggers. I couldn't help but admire them. They made the right decision of investing and look where they are now, enjoying the perks and privileges of financial security! Which makes me think that it's never too late to change our financial lives for the better.

Planning for our future is easy to do if we know where to invest our money. It could be a life insurance or some investment option in some trusted and reputable company like SLF, so long as we allot a particular amount of money from our salary for retirement and stick to it. And I bet you'll agree with me when I say the most perfect time to start on this is today! And while we're on it, how about an all-expense-paid trip to Switzerland as motivation?

Have I mentioned that the Italian and Mexican food at Buenisimo we had for dinner was awesome? I sampled most of the items on the buffet table. That, even though I just had a gastronomically satisfying feast at the SM Food Court bloggers event hours ago. After that, I got the chance to have my pictures taken with Pia Magalona and Bam Aquino who were both very smart and approachable.

I have Sun Life and yeah, it's high time that Filipinos learn to save more. Minimum wage earners who save a little every payday is better than those who earn a lot and yet don't save.
