Last night, we showed our support to a Boholano friend by attending their cultural presentation held at Landbank Auditorium in Malate. He is part of a group organized by the National Youth Commission (NYC) for its youth development program. He and thirty more will be representing the Philippines in the forthcoming Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP) slated this November 2009.

NYC describes the program as:

“An annual youth exchange program that provides the youth with the opportunity to visit ASEAN countries and Japan, and establish friendship with their counterparts.

Delegates live on board a Japanese luxury ship. While on country visits, they undertake various activities such as courtesy call, interaction with local youth, institutional visits, and homestay with local families.

The program is being sponsored by Japan in cooperation with the ASEAN-member countries.”

The show wasn’t polished yet but it was entertaining. It had dance and song numbers that reflected our rich cultural heritage and national identity. I could imagine the fun they had and the amount of hard work they put into the rehearsals while watching the show that lasted for more than an hour. This is the same cultural presentation that they are going to perform on board the ship. Let us wish them good luck as they serve as Philippine ambassadors of goodwill this November 2009.
