What do we get if we combine the likes of Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Queen Latifah, Taylor Swift, Emma Roberts, Jamie Foxx, Patrick Dempsey, Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, Taylor Lautner in a big-budgeted, love-themed Hollywood movie? What else but a perfect, giddy-ful cinematic experience! I was able to catch Valentine's Day (the movie) with Edwin and some friends on the eve of Valentine's Day at the Cineplex of Shangri-La Mall. The special screening was organized by The White Hat Italian Frozen Yogurt and a slew of sponsors. I really liked the movie and thought it's a must-see for people who believe in love and even those who don't.


Almost shot entirely in the chic city of Los Angeles, the movie tells the stories of several people from different career, status and views in life. Some of the characters are connected to each other in some ways while some will eventually get linked to each other due to some unexpected circumstances. Some will have a stronger relationship. Some will get their hearts broken. Some will see love in a new light. Some will give love a second chance. Some will seek love advice and find them in the most unexpected manner. Some will have new realizations about love. Everyone will be happy in the end. All this happens in one day, Valentine's Day that is.

The story I liked most was the one between Ashton Kutcher and Jennifer Garner. They are best of friends. Kutcher's character is engaged and becomes single overnight. Garner's character is in a relationship with a married man and she soon discovers about it. In the end, they find themselves in each other's arms. A perfect love story. One which I think is bound to last since it is founded on friendship and overwhelming love.

I found comedic relief in Anne Hathaway's character. She's an office girl and a phone sex entertainer at the same time and that's where the trouble starts. Will her date accepts her for who she is or not? It's for you to find out.

Surprisingly, the story of the two Taylors (Swift and Lautner), who are paired in this movie, was plain and ordinary. Swift's character, who was a bit on the weird side, didn't appeal to me at all. I also thought their story were just squeezed in for added glitz and appeal to the youth. The two Taylors deserved more than that.

Julia Roberts shone in this movie despite the small part she had. There's a nice twist in her story and those of Bradley Cooper's character (her seatmate in the plane) that one should not dare miss.

Valentine's Day movie is a feel-good movie. It's light and has several laughter-inducing scenes. It does not have too much drama that could bore you to death. I liked the plot and how they made it less predictable. (The cinematography is also seamless which makes the scenes easy on the eyes.) With this movie, you'll surely leave the cinema with a warm, mushy feeling inside. And perhaps, it would inspire you to take care of your relationship (if you're in one) or continue looking for that special someone meant just for you. :)
