VOIP refers to a set of transmission technologies that uses the internet in delivering voice communications, facsimile and other voice-messaging applications. VOIP technology is now used worldwide in providing telephone services to businesses and organizations.
For one, VOIP technology is cheaper and more efficient than traditional telephone system. You don’t have to install lots of equipment, you just need to have a good set of handsets and a stable internet connection. The service provider usually takes care of everything, from the setup and regular updates to the provision of 24/7 technical support.
Ever since our office upgraded from a traditional copper-wire telephone system to a hosted pbx using VOIP technology last year, our telephone service has improved and our office has saved a lot on monthly telephone costs. Each office was provided only with a single telephone number and this has been assigned with several local numbers to provide better telephone access to employees.
If before, we only had three local numbers, now we have six. We no longer have to walk to the nearest handset as we now have handsets on our individual tables. Also, instead of using public lines when contacting a different division, our calls are connected through the hosted pbx which reduces line congestion. Work-wise, this improves our efficiency and saves us valuable time.
