Hosiery: Evolution and Purposes

Posted by edelweiza in , ,

Women’s fascination with hosiery spans time and crosses boundaries. Hosiery refers to garments worn directly on the feet and legs to provide protection and comfort. Over time, the fashion industry has incorporated hosiery into women’s wardrobe and the rest is history. Vanity aside, hosiery also have medical purposes.

Surgical stockings such as juzo compression stockings, for instance, aid in the treatment of various diseases. Normally, they are used for patients that suffered from stroke. They provide pressure to the legs and help improve blood circulation in the surrounding areas of the body. They are worn for a specific period of time to aid in the recovery of patients. There are times when these stockings are prescribed for longer periods of time such as in leg ulcers and oedema management.

Therapeutic effectiveness should be the number one consideration when buying medical stockings. Next should be quality, comfort and style. Wearing medical stockings, especially for women, should give us freedom of movement and make us feel as if we are not wearing them. It should also not compromise our sense of style. When buying medical stockings, make sure to choose pairs that are easy to wash, durable, stylish and comfortable to wear.
