Drugs abuse is one of the problems confronting today’s youth. Actually, even adults are not spared from drug addiction. There are lots of factors attributed to this vice such as low self-esteem, family problems, peer pressure and the environment itself. Detecting drug abuse in its early stage is vital to get the drug user back to his senses and eventually, back to society.

When a person becomes addicted to prohibited drugs, he should get drug abuse treatment at once. Families with members that are into drugs should get help from the concerned agency in correcting this problem. The person’s health, his future and his entire personality, are the things that drug abuse gradually destroys. Sometimes, it’s the life itself in the form of untimely death.

I, myself, am concerned about the growing drug problem in the Philippines and the world over. Education in our homes is very important to keep our family members from trying drugs. Strong family values such as love, dignity, respect, understanding and acceptance should be instilled and kept intact so that family members won’t resort to drugs when failure happens or a certain problem that seems unbearable arises.

The family is the basic unit of society that is responsible to the growth and well-being of its every member. We should keep our family intact to safeguard our members from the dangers posed by drug abuse.
