Priority Check: Work Vs. Pleasure and Work Vs. Work

Posted by edelweiza in , , ,

When it comes to work, you can say I'm one of the busiest persons at present. We have this upcoming big event and everyone in the office is swamped with work because of it. The job I'm in is not the best there is but it has been serving me quite well since the day I accepted it. I've no regrets switching from being a writer to being a communications officer. I've also no regrets that I'm juggling two jobs as I reap greater benefits for me and my family. It only saddens me that sometimes, I have to choose between work and pleasure and when worst comes to worst, between work and work. This occasional priority check can be stressful.

Work Vs. Pleasure. When I am torn between pleasure and work, most of the time I end up choosing work. Just because I have bills to pay. In this breadwinner life that I live, I follow a strict budget and a payment schedule for the dues. I can say I'm good at money and time management but the problem starts when I get an invite to a social/blog event or when my boyfriend asks me out and the schedule of both coincides with my work. (Now you know where I am when I don't attend social/blog events or serve my duties to my loved ones.)

Definitely, work is first. But when something very important to me comes out, may it be a social function or a blog event, work takes a backseat. I just make sure I don't miss a work deadline or that I have a replacement that will do the job I am supposed to do at a given time.

Also, I allot a considerable time for myself. This me time is crucial in my personal development. For one, I make sure that I pamper myself once in a while. I travel to see new places and meet new people. I eat the food I craved for. I use the beautiful dress I bought recently. Before I go to bed, I reflect on how my day went and thank God for everything. And so on and so forth. And yes, when work tries to take away my me time, me, myself and I win! I just make sure everything is manageable enough for me not to lose my job the next day.

Work Vs. Work. For me, and I think for most people, this is the hardest to decide on. You are left with two very important choices that both serve your financial needs. In my case, what I do is I weigh things based on their urgency and worth. If one work needs my attention ASAP and the other can wait, I choose the former. If one work will benefit me more than the other offers, I choose the former again. Whenever I look back into the past work vs. work scenarios in my professional life, I am convinced that I made the right decision most of the time.

Well, I guess the key here is to clear your mind first and think things over and over before making a decision. Let's be thankful that opportunities continue to present themselves to us. I know of someone who doesn't have a choice at all, but he continues to look for opportunities in the hope that one day, he'll finally get a shot at life. :)
