Split Words: My Newest Brain Game

Posted by edelweiza in , ,

Whenever boredom hits me, I try to find something to do, otherwise I run the risk of getting irritable. I hate it when I am left with nothing to do because I tend to think a lot about my miseries, or sometimes, the lack thereof. My two siblings can attest to that because we live under one roof. I'm just glad that after spending quite a long time together, we are already used to each other's peculiarities. Lol.

Whenever boredom hits me these days, I play Split Words. It's a brain game where you form words from fragments. The words are themed so it's easier to focus your mind on it. There's no time limit though but it records your errors and the time it takes you to finish each set. You can also play on your desired difficulty level, no pressure. I started with easy, of course.

I discovered Split Words one lazy afternoon while browsing the net. This is currently my newest brain game. I'm not yet hooked but I find it fun to play. It stimulates my vocabulary and challenges me to be better with words. I think it's a good alternative to Scrabble and Bookworm.

Why don't you try the game and see for yourself? :)

That game's harder than I expected. I tried it at level 4 intermediate. It took a long time to finish. I think too many of the "fragments" are single or double letters that don't really give you a clue what word they are part of. They should divide words by syllables, the way they are divided in the dictionary, otherwise they are just meaningless fragments.

But, it was fun anyway. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you like geography, here's a link to a geography quiz:

http://www.travelpod.com/traveler-iq?6b8b=c088

It gives you the name of a city somewhere in the world (and the country it is in), and you have to click on the spot where you think it is located. And you have to go fast. The points you get depend on how close you get to the actual location. As you progress the questions get harder and harder. I remember on one of the last ones I missed the mark by some 8,500 miles! That has to be half way around the world from the actual location I was supposed to pinpoint.

I scored 364,897, which I thought was pretty good. Until my brother tried it and got 383,000. C'est la vie!
