I usually get planners as Christmas present but I seldom use them. What I do is I hand the stuff to friends so they may put them in good use, like in making plans for the coming year. Until the Starbucks planner mania hit me.

It all started when my boyfriend (yes, even breadwinners have boyfriends) and I decided to have coffee at Starbucks-SM Manila. Upon ordering our beverages of choice, they gave me a promo card. The card says I must collect 24 stickers to get a copy of Starbucks planner 2008 edition. Cool.

The remaining weeks before the cutoff saw me persuading friends to get our caffeine fix from Starbucks so I get to acquire more stickers for my promo card. Luckily, during a night out a bunch of friends took notice of my efforts (or I should say I let them know of my efforts) and before midnight I already got my very own Starbucks planner. I was so grateful to them.

In this digital age, planners are now considered a thing of the past. Today, people can just buy a PDA, a mobile phone or a laptop and plan the day ahead. It’s that simple. However, planners give a different feel as they:

  • require careful attention (you think before you put something on those precious pages)
  • ask people to write down plans and daily activities on paper
  • match each type of personality with a different color or label
  • are more personal than any digital assistants around
  • serve as a powerful time management tool

You can touch everything that you’ve written on your planner and feel the connection between you and the paper itself. It’s like they are there to remind you every time you browse through each page of how you want to live your life and when you should act to realize your goals.

Planners are really for people, particularly those who are proactive and productive. To provide a timeline, to remind about plans and daily activities and to point us in the right direction as we deal with life and everything that comes with it.

As a breadwinner, I now realize that I should have used the planners given to me in the past. My Starbucks planner presently plays a big role in my time management efforts. It helps me in more ways than one in fulfilling my duties and responsibilities at work, to my family, to my friends and to myself.

I have a PDA, Palm Pilot to be exact. But I seldom use it because I want to buy 1 or 2G SD card before using its programs. However, I have a manual daily planner (courtesy of PLLO), which I use everyday. You're right, writing on a traditional planner is more personal than e-gadgets. Nice blog! Very informative and interesting indeed ;-)

I really hate planners! In my whole life I've never kept a planner because I can't get them updated. One time, I tried to have one, I was able to fill them on the first and second week, but when the third comes, wala na. Kakatamad e. Hahaha! The PDA that I bought is just one of the useless gadgets I got, hehehe! But it keeps me up when I'm bored, because I downloaded trial games and all!

This year, I realized, we do not really have to spend more to be happy. =)

@ adel, keeping a planner really depends on the person then.as i've said, before i never used them. hehe.and i agree with you, we don't have to spend more to be happy.happiness is everywhere, we just have to learn how to appreciate the little things we have.

hi! i'm back! thanks for visiting my blog. =) you can also check out my old blog (www.butterflylion21.blogspot.com). i plan to update it.

i've always been a list person, if there's such a word. =D i have planners, to-do lists, birthdays list, etc. my friends & family relies from me when it comes to birthdays, anniversaries, and whatever occasion we celebrate every year.

planners are a staple in our household coz papa has clients who regularly send them yearly. i’m also fond of organizers, papemelroti’s planners, and those NBS cute little planners (i habitually purchase them annually way back when i was staying manila).

i do my list in small notepads i get from my papa’s printing business. the scrap papers are made into notepads by our uncle who works there. i remember us siblings grabbing for our share each time new notepads were brought from papa’s office. i grew up with those notepads. we even give them away to friends who are list persons, too.

a few years back, my bestfriend (who’s based in california) sent me a PDA coz she can’t stand the mess i have with my notepads. i use the PDA but i still sometimes do my list on notepads. nowadays, i rely on my cell phone organizer for my daily things-to-do but i still have my paper organizers.

@ babing: sure. wow, different kinds of time mgt. tools. i agree with you, the top choice of many, if not most people, is still the ever-dependable and reliable paper organizer. :D
